Newsflash – Aged care registered nurses’ payment

Newsflash – Aged care registered nurses’ payment

The second round of applications for the Aged Care Registered Nurses’ Payment are now open.

Eligible registered nurses working in aged care may receive up to $6000 in payments, consisting of a core payment and an additional payment.

Aged care providers must apply on your behalf through the Commonwealth Grant Connect website by 20 December. If they do not make an application on your behalf, the monies for either period will not be forthcoming.

The payment is only for registered nurses, not enrolled nurses. When this bonus was announced in 2021, ANMF opposed the payment being only available to RNs. Since then our national ANMF work value case in the Fair Work Commission has achieved a 15 per cent award rate pay increase and the same dollar equivalent for aged care registered and enrolled nurses and personal care workers effective from 30 June.

Please note, since round 1 the Department of Health and Ageing have made the following changes:

  • Registered nurses who are employed through agencies/brokers are now ineligible.
  • A tiering system will be used to determine amounts for part time workers (see table 1 and 2)

Core payment

You must have been employed by the same eligible employer for the full period of:

  • 1 November 2022 to 31 October 2023 to receive the 12-month payment, or
  • 1 May 2023 to 31 October 2023 to receive the 6-month payment.

Applications for either the 12-month or 6-month period payment can be lodged at the same time.
