City of Boroondara maternal and child health nurses and immunisation nurses are undertaking protected industrial action after negotiations for a new enterprise bargaining agreement (EBA) stalled.

The current EBA expired on 30 June 2024.

As part of the action, which commenced Monday 19 August, members are wearing red campaign t-shirts and stopping work to have discussions with new parents and members of the community to explain their dispute.

Despite working through the pandemic and cost-of-living issues, the City of Boroondara is offering a one-off $650 cost-of-living payment and a three-year agreement with a 2.75% wage increase in the first year and unknown increases in the following years.

Members are seeking a fair four per cent per annum pay rise and an additional week of annual leave in line with the wider nursing profession and neighbouring councils.

ANMF (Vic Branch) Secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said that offering a fair wage rise and improved working conditions will encourage retention of this experienced workforce.

‘These highly qualified and skilled maternal and child health nurses and immunisation nurses are working in an increasingly complex environment. They often are the only point of contact for families in crisis.’

‘They help families with everything from identifying developmental delays or autism and screening for family violence.’

‘In a council satisfaction survey, these nurses scored the highest approval rating of all the council services at 94.7%. We call on the City of Boroondara to invest in the people that provide high quality services to families within the municipality.’

Members can support their Boroondara MCH and immunisation colleagues by sending an email to Boroondara CEO Phillip Storer asking him to offer respectful pay and conditions.
