ANMF negotiates staffing for new Monash unit

ANMF has negotiated an agreement with Monash Health around staffing at its new Transitional Support Unit at Narre Warren.

The unit, which began full operations from 10 December 2018, is a residential space in which mental health patients, with complex needs requiring long term service treatment, are supported in their preparation for a staged progression back into the community from hospital.

Monash Health had proposed that the unit would be staffed with a manager, who was not required to be a nurse, and one registered nurse.

The ANMF successfully negotiated a nursing structure including that the unit must be staffed with a designated nurse unit manager. In addition, patients are cared for by a core nursing staff of two registered nurses rostered on each of the morning, afternoon and night shifts, with the classification of the nursing staff to include an associate nurse unit manager on each shift.

This is an excellent outcome for our members working in mental health and for the unit patients.
