The Victorian Department of Health (DoH) have begun contacting eligible public sector graduates regarding payment of the first instalment of their sign-on bonus.
ANMF strongly encourages eligible members to check their emails, as you’ll need to provide your banking details via the department’s claim portal as outlined in the email. The DoH aims to pay you swiftly.
The sign-on bonus is paid in two $2500 instalments:
- the first instalment will be paid by the end of the 2nd quarter of your graduate year
- the remainder will be paid after you complete two full years of continuous employment with an eligible public health service. This is calculated from your graduate program start date at a minimum of 0.8 FTE or pro rata equivalent.
Both instalments of the $5000 bonus may be subject to tax. The Australian Taxation Office website has more information about bonus payments.
In 2022 the Andrews Government announced this $5000 bonus as part of its election commitments. This initiative was the result of ANMF advocacy on behalf of student members graduating in 2022, 2023 and 2024 who felt the pinch throughout the pandemic and missed out on the State Government scholarship for new nursing and midwifery students.
