Library services for regional members

ANMF (Vic Branch) librarians Kieran Hegarty and Kathleen Fitzgerald

I work for a health service outside of Melbourne. Am I able to access the library’s collection?

ANMF (Vic Branch) Library: Absolutely. We’ve made some changes to improve access to our collection for regional and rural members. In March 2018, our Branch Council ratified a loans policy that formally entitles members to borrow items from the library collection. If you’re a member living outside the Melbourne metropolitan area and you want to borrow hard copy books, we will post them to you with a reply-paid postage sticker to cover the cost of return postage.

The digital collection the library manages includes offsite access for all members to the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) and ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health databases.

The CINAHL database includes full text for more than 1300 nursing and allied health journals and indexing for nearly 5500 journals. It also includes continuing education modules, evidence-based care sheets, quick lessons providing overviews of diseases and conditions and a collection of e-books. ProQuest allows searching across over 1000 peer-reviewed journal titles in nursing and allied health and access to a range of up-to-date international handbooks.

We also have a curated Australian collection of electronic books available on the EBook Central platform. Most of our members are employed by health services which have libraries with e-book collections but for those members without access to e-books, our digital collection provides another option.

The most popular books in the e-book collection are currently Harvard’s Nursing Guide to Drugs, Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing and Potter and Perry’s Fundamentals of Nursing.
