AOD scholarship opportunity for nurses and midwives

Victorian registered nurses and midwives with an interest in the alcohol and other drugs sector are encouraged to consider applying for a partial scholarship for study in 2021.

The Department of Health and Human Services is offering partial scholarships valued at approximately $9000 for nurses and midwives to complete a graduate certificate of addictive behaviours in 2021.

Expressions of interest will close 11.59pm, 13 December 2020.

The graduate certificate is delivered by Turning Point in partnership with Monash University, and is an online course.

The qualification is the first two units – equivalent to four university subjects – of a Master of Addictive Behaviours.

The scholarships will cover about 80 per cent of tuition/course fees. The applicant is expected to cover students’ fees, and other course-related costs, such as computers, textbooks and other incidentals.

Eligibility criteria

Where relevant, priority will be given to those who have not previously received a scholarship from DHHS.

Successful applicants must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. meet Monash University’s minimum entry requirements for the course and provide:
    – a curriculum vitae
    – a statement of purpose (500 words outlining reasons for undertaking the course and why you should be awarded the scholarship)
    – academic transcripts of relevant degrees
    – identification
  2. be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and reside in Victoria
  3. intend to enrol in the Graduate Certificate of Addictive Behaviours for completion in 2021
  4. be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a registered nurse or midwife and provide a copy of the registration(s)
  5. must hold an Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a cognate discipline* with at least a pass average
    *Cognate disciplines include medicine, psychology, nursing, health science, occupational therapy, social work, social and community welfare, science, policy, law, criminology, research, teaching, arts (multidisciplinary), and other health and social sciences.
  6. must be eligible and meet the criteria for enrolment into M4018 Graduate Certificate of Addictive Behaviours 2021
