The Victorian government has partnered with Metricon Homes to develop surplus government land under the Inclusionary Housing Pilot program, aimed at providing affordable housing. Five sites have been earmarked for development, the first of which – in Broadmeadows – is now offering homes for purchase to essential workers ahead of the public release.
The Broadmeadows site, named Parkview, will feature architecturally designed townhouses with 2, 3, and 4-bedroom options, situated around a large park and close to amenities. The development is described as ‘a range of homes that address today’s cost of living pressures whilst being environmentally conscious and respectful of the natural resources used in construction.’
The offer
This initiative aims to support key workers in accessing affordable housing in Victoria. Five homes are being made available as a priority release to essential workers who are union members, prior to public access.
The offer is available from 1 October until 30 November 2024, with houses sold to eligible purchasers on a first come first served basis.
Eligibility criteria
Eligible workers include medical professionals such as nurses, midwives and personal carers, as well as emergency services workers, teachers and social workers.
To be eligible, households must earn within the moderate-income range as defined by the Planning & Environment Act 1987, section 3AB. For couples with no dependants, this ranges from $71,451pa to $107,170pa. For families comprising one or two parents and dependent children, the moderate-income range is defined as $100,031pa to $150,030pa.
Applicants must be 18 years or older, with at least one household member employed.
