ANMF (Vic Branch) is extremely concerned by media reports today that mass redundancies will hit multiple Healthscope hospitals in Victoria.
It was reported on ABC Radio that 25 nurses are at risk of losing their jobs as part of restructuring at Melbourne Private Hospital in Parkville. Other hospitals named include John Fawkner Hospital in Coburg and Cotham Private Hospital in Kew.
ANMF (Vic Branch) Assistant Secretary Paul Gilbert says he is concerned that Healthscope is trying to avoid making a full announcement regarding planned staff cuts and workplace changes.
“Nurses and midwives should not be finding out on the radio that their jobs are at risk – this creates a working environment of fear and distrust and significantly impacts on employees’ quality of life,” Mr Gilbert said.
“Healthscope has an obligation to inform their employees and the ANMF about any proposed staffing and workplace changes and not drip feed this information in bits and pieces.”
ANMF is awaiting a response to its urgent request today for more information on this matter and one which explains the full scope of Healthscope’s plans.
ANMF represents almost 3000 nurses, midwives and carers at Victorian Healthscope sites.
