ANMF commends Victorian Government on voluntary assisted dying laws

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) has commended the Victorian Government for its support of voluntary assisted dying laws which were passed in the Victorian Parliament today.

ANMF Federal Secretary Lee Thomas said politicians had shown “courage and compassion” in voting for the new laws, allowing terminally-ill Victorians who make a voluntary assisted dying request, greater access to palliative care options, covered by a safe, legal framework.

Ms Thomas said: “The ANMF, in collaboration with the ANMF Victorian Branch, have long campaigned for laws which ensure that people suffering from terminal and incurable illnesses, are provided with the power and protection to have choices about the timing and manner of their death.

“Today, we are heartened that Victorian politicians have listened.”
