As we have done with previous Victorian elections, the ANMF (Vic Branch) has written to the three major political parties and asked for asked for their policies and election commitments relevant to health, nurses, midwives, carers, patients and residents. The policies of the Victorian Labor Party and the Victorian Greens are below for your consideration. The information is published as provided to the ANMF without amendments.
Once again, only the Victorian Labor Party amongst other commitments will improve and introduce new nurse/midwife to patient ratios in public health services in the next term of government from 2022 to 2026 should it be re-elected.
The Victorian Liberal/National Coalition did not respond to the Branch request.
‘We wrote to the Greens, we wrote to the Liberals, and we have written the same letter to the government,’ said Branch Secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick on Wednesday 9 November. ‘We asked them to document their commitments to nurses and midwives. We have received a response from Greens. We have received a response from Premier Andrews. But sadly we did not get anything back from Mr Guy.’
