An ANMF (Vic Branch) election will be held between 8 September and 6 October 2025.
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) will conduct the full Branch Council election for all 23 positions, including:
- 1 Secretary position
- 2 Assistant Secretary positions
- 1 President position
- 1 Vice President position
- 4 Executive Members
- 14 Branch Councillors
The election is conducted according to the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009.
What does Branch Council do?
The Secretary (1) and Assistant Secretaries (2) are full-time paid positions responsible for managing the ANMF office and staff, member services, negotiations with employers and government and enterprise bargaining campaigns.
Branch Council, comprising the President (1), Vice President (2), Executive Members (4) and Branch Councillors (14), is the union’s highest policy and decision-making body. All of these positions are unpaid, honorary positions.
Why is there an election now?
This is a full Branch Council election – all 23 positions, including the Secretary and Assistant Secretaries. Full Branch elections are held every four years.
Branch Council elections for President, Vice President, Executive Members (4) and Branch Councillors (14) are held every two years.
The AEC conducts an election if there is more than one nomination for a position.
The last election was a Branch Council election in 2023.
How do members vote and how do I know who the candidates are?
The election will be conducted by a postal ballot.
The AEC will start mailing ballots from Monday 8 September 2025. Members should start receiving a ballot paper and candidate statement booklet in their letterbox from Wednesday 10 September.
Ballots must be signed and returned in the return envelope provided.
The AEC will count all ballots received by 10am Monday 6 October 2025.
Is it compulsory to vote?
Voting gives members a say in who runs their union, however, it’s not compulsory to vote.
Who is eligible to vote?
All members, including those on parental leave membership, who were financial as of 30 June 2025 are eligible to vote. These members, , are on the eligible members list ANMF (Vic Branch) has provided to the Australian Electoral Commission.
Under the rules, associate members and non-working students are not eligible to vote.
What if I am eligible and I don’t receive a ballot paper?

What if I have moved home since 30 June?
Contact the AEC to update your address and request a new ballot via AEC Returning Officer Hanish Gupta via iebevents@aec.gov.au or 9285 7111.
What do I do if my ballot is damaged?

When will we know the election result?
The ballot closes 10am, Monday 6 October. The AEC will declare the result within 14 days after the close of the ballot.
