St Vincent’s Private Hospitals underpayments rectified for casual staff working weekends

ANMF (Vic Branch) members at St Vincent’s Private Hospitals recently contacted the Branch about changes to the calculation of weekend shift penalties, resulting in a 12.5 per cent pay reduction for casual staff working weekend shifts.

In August 2025, casual staff were paid 187.5 per cent for weekend shifts, reflecting the time-and-a-half weekend penalty rate – as stated on page 29 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospitals LTD Victoria and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Nurses and Midwives Enterprise Agreement (5.36).

Members reported to ANMF that recently this had been reduced to 175 per cent without notice, by excluding casual loading from the calculation.

ANMF immediately contacted St Vincent’s Private asking that the correct rate be reinstated immediately and all affected members reimbursed. St Vincent’s Private has now confirmed that:

the error will be corrected immediately, and
an audit will be conducted to identify and backpay all affected members.

ANMF remains committed to ensuring all members are repaid in full and that appropriate penalties are achieved.
