Members considering a career in the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector, or those who are already working in the space and who want to consolidate or build their skills in caring for people with an addiction, are invited to apply for a $10,000 scholarship.
As part of an ongoing ANMF (Vic Branch) and Turning Point project, the Victorian Department of Health is offering scholarships valued at approximately $10,000 for Victorian nurses and midwives to complete a Graduate Certificate in Addictive Behaviours in 2025.
This one-year, part-time course, facilitated by Turning Point staff in conjunction with Monash University, is delivered online so you can study from anywhere across the state.
It will develop your expert knowledge and skills by focusing on the application of a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to addiction, and a range of assessment and treatment strategies for diagnosing and planning interventions for people experiencing addiction.
In the first semester unit, you will explore models and theories of addiction, and examine research evidence to strengthen your understanding of how this informs contemporary policy and public health responses within a harm minimisation framework.
In the second semester unit, you will develop practice-relevant skills in identifying, screening and assessment for addictive behaviours, providing brief interventions and referrals for treatment within the context of AOD treatment systems. A particular emphasis will be placed on developing communication, client engagement, professional practice and interpersonal skills important for all AOD, health and community service practitioners.

Expressions of interest in the scholarship close at 5pm Friday 25 October. You will be required to complete the online scholarship expression of interest form and a 500-word statement of purpose as well as your CV and registration certificate.
