What is this information session about?
ANMF (Vic Branch) members working as Clinical Liaison Nurses or Midwives should have or will soon receive information from their workplace and from ANMF about the next steps to validate the draft descriptors for clinical liaison, clinical coordinator and clinical consultant nurses and midwives.
This long-standing work was developed following members’ requests to the ANMF, through delegates conferences, Member Assistance enquiries and other communications, to pursue a process for the inclusion of these important roles in the public sector enterprise agreement.
As a result of our members’ advocacy, the 2020 – 2024 Victorian public sector nurses and midwives enterprise agreement included Clause 14.9 which led to the development of classification descriptors for the CAPR classification stream for clinical liaison, clinical coordinators, and clinical consultants. Throughout the process a working group, comprising ANMF, the Victorian Hospitals’ Industrial Association (the employers’ representative) and Executive Directors of Nursing/Midwifery, has been developing and reviewing the draft descriptors.
While the process is progressing, it still requires further validation and as a result, the current process of evaluation is now commencing. This stage of the project aims to undertake an evaluation of the Clinical Liaison Nurse/Midwife for the following health services:
Monash Health, Western Health, Delkaya Health, Grampians Health, Eastern Health, Austin Health, Royal Children’s Hospital and Royal Women’s Hospital.
The purpose is to undertake a direct evaluation of the descriptors to ensure they are fit for purpose, refine any future processes for shifting Clinical Liaison, Clinical Coordinator and Clinical Consultant nurses and midwives across to their new descriptors. However, this phase is not the actual process of changing classifications, there will be an evaluation report on the applicability of the descriptors to the Phase one: Clinical Liaison verification/validation which may indicate there are changes required in the descriptors, the implementation approach or any other part of the process.
While ANMF has given in principal support of the current draft of descriptors, if the feedback from members is that this is not fit for purpose, we will recommend further reviews and will not support the final step in verification.
Should all matters be agreed, the final proposed classification descriptors will still be required to be finalised by the Statewide Classification Panel. Once this has occurred, only then will final implementation occur.
