In response to our 2025 Use us or Lose us campaign and early career nurse and midwife advocacy, ANMF welcomed an additional 250 newly funded graduate program positions for this cohort being created through the budget, as an expanded mid-late year intake.
Whilst this won’t address the issue completely for the 2025 graduate cohort, it was and is an important step in the right direction.
In addition to acute programs, there will also be aged care graduate opportunities, with 19 additional places being supported for health services that deliver public sector residential aged care. The health services that will be taking on these positions will be known in the coming weeks and ANMF will advise members as soon as we know.
In relation to acute programs, ANMF now has the full list of services that will be offering these graduate positions.
We understand that recruitment has already commenced at some of the health services (see below for the complete list of all services with newly funded places), and 2025 graduates who were previously unsuccessful in gaining a place should search and apply directly to the health service career websites. For example, On the Record did a quick search and found applications closing 18 September for general and mental health graduate places at Royal Melbourne Hospital.
These places are additional to 103 extra funded places previously announced late last year.
They are also separate and in addition to the upcoming 2027 PMCV match process for 2026 graduates, which we know that current students will be eagerly awaiting. We will keep members updated as it becomes clearer how many funded positions will be available in 2027 for the 2026 graduating cohort.
