Haematology and oncology nurse Emily Baxter presented to the 2019 Health and Environmental Sustainability Conference on her team’s efforts to introduce recycling to St Vincent’s Hospital Cancer Centre.
Nursing for 11 years, ten of them in oncology, Emily finds the relationships with patients and the ever-changing treatment regimens, particularly targeted therapies, highly rewarding.
She was inspired to introduce more sustainable practices into her workplace by a nurse’s presentation at the 2015 Health and Environmental Sustainability Conference.
‘Hospitals are such large producers of waste and it’s important that we try and improve our practices so the next generation doesn’t have to deal with our mess,’ Emily says.
