Healthscope EBA update 14 – Healthscope nurses and midwives reject proposed agreement

Nurses and midwives have rejected Healthscope’s proposed agreement! This sends a strong message that Healthscope must address wages, staffing, salary packaging arrangements and the nominal expiry date of the Agreement.

Thank you to our ANMF Job Reps and members who ensured nurses and midwives understood that while Healthscope’s proposed offer would have achieved pay parity for five months from July 2027, it did not provide market comparability before then, and that there were other key aspects of the proposal that left it short.

ANMF has requested that Healthscope provide the declaration of the ballot result, which would include details such as how many employees voted and the split of YES/NO votes, however Healthscope has refused to provide this. We therefore cannot inform members of any detail of the outcome. It is unusual for an employer to not inform their staff (and ANMF) of these matters.

ANMF SEEKS TO RECOMMENCE BARGAINING

ANMF has sought to resume negotiations within the coming weeks to reach an agreement that values, recognises and rewards nurses’ and midwives’ important work. Good faith bargaining requirements continue to apply to all bargaining representatives. As has been the case throughout negotiations, ANMF (Vic Branch) is seeking to achieve an Agreement acceptable to members as soon as possible.

PROTECTED INDUSTRIAL ACTION TO CONTINUE

Members should continue with protected industrial action, including wearing t-shirts, distributing campaign material, refusing redeployment and overtime, ensuring meal breaks are taken and administrative and data bans.

Any possible escalation of industrial action will be decided with reference to the status of ongoing negotiations, so it is important that you attend scheduled members meetings and continue to read bargaining updates.

Your ongoing industrial action sends a strong message to your employer that you will continue to fight for a fair and reasonable agreement.

Remember that the taking of protected industrial action in pursuit of a fair enterprise agreement is your right under the Fair Work Act.
