Nurses – are you prepared if you’re called to assist with a birth?
ANMF (Vic Branch) Education Centre’s emergency birth training course, created and presented by the Royal Women’s Hospital Maternity Services Education Program will give you the knowledge and skills.
This course suits registered or enrolled nurses, particularly those working in ED, who might be called on to assist with a birth or a registered midwife looking to refresh skills.

Course overview
10 hours CPD
This course will develop your knowledge and skills on the normal mechanisms of labour and birth, as well as how to care for a birthing person and newborn. You will also learn to identify and manage the most common and significant maternity emergencies.
Topics include:
- Normal labour and birth
- Postpartum haemorrhage
- Shoulder dystocia
- Breech birth
- Neonatal resuscitation
The program includes hands-on skills stations to consolidate all these skills in a simulated maternity environment.
