Branch election result: members overwhelmingly endorse the Maddy Harradence Team

ANMF (Vic Branch) members have elected the Maddy Harradence Team to lead the Branch.

Maddy Harradence has been elected to the position of Secretary, and Nicole Allan and Sam Casey have both been elected as Assistant Secretaries. Emma Foreman has been elected Branch President and Natalie Berniard has been elected Branch Vice President.

The Maddy Harradence Team was also successful across all remaining Branch Council positions (four executive members and 14 councillors) after campaigning on a strong track record of delivering union growth and low union fees, safe staffing and expanded ratios, improved wages, workloads and working conditions, and strong member representation and support.

The Australian Election Commission (AEC) declared the results of the election on 13 October.

Upon learning of the results, Maddy thanked everyone who voted for the team and promised to keep working hard for members.

‘This was a critical election,’ she said. ‘Together we can continue to grow our mighty ANMF, and work collectively to make nursing, midwifery and personal care work better for this generation and the next.

‘This campaign has been so rewarding because it had members at the heart of everything we’ve done,’ she added.

‘There’s more work to be done, and we feel incredibly proud and honoured to continue working for better outcomes for every Victorian nurse, midwife and carer – whether they’re graduates or students, whether they’re working in regional or metropolitan health, aged care or mental health services, or whether they work in the private or the public sector.’

Meet your new leadership team

Maddy Harradence

Maddy is a registered nurse who studied in NSW and moved to Victoria in 2009 for nurse/midwife patient ratios. She completed her grad year at St Vincent’s public and has worked in haematology, oncology, palliative care, ICU and ED. She was an ANMF Job Rep from 2012 and was awarded the Hannah Sellars Job Rep of the Year Award in 2015. From 2013–17 she was a Branch Councillor before becoming an ANMF organiser in 2017.

Maddy was elected Assistant Secretary in 2021. Branch Council appointed her Secretary in July 2025 following Lisa Fitzpatrick’s retirement after nearly 24 years as Branch Secretary. Maddy was elected Secretary in October 2025.

Maddy is a mum of two young children (three if you include her dog!).

Sam Casey

Sam, an ICU nurse, undertook her graduate nursing program in 2013 and has held clinical nurse specialist, quality and education roles. She became an ANMF Job Rep in 2016 and joined the Branch as an Organiser in 2018, predominantly covering public and private acute hospitals and private aged care. Branch Council appointed Sam to the role of Assistant Secretary from February 2025. She was elected Assistant Secretary in October 2025.

Sam and her partner welcomed their first child in June 2025.

Nicole Allan

Nicole began her hospital training at St Vincent’s public hospital 1987. She has worked as a nurse in the private and public sector initially in medical nursing, oncology and palliative care. After having her own family, she completed postgraduate midwifery studies in 2002 and worked as a midwife at Dandenong and Casey Hospitals.

Nicole joined the Branch as an industrial organiser in 2009 and became the Maternity Services Officer in 2019. Branch Council appointed Nicole to the role of Assistant Secretary from July 2025. She was elected Assistant Secretary in October 2025.

Nicole is a mum to three girls, step-mum to two boys and now a grandmother.
