ANMF (Vic Branch) staff and members joined with other unionists for Mardi Gras 2023

ANMF (Vic Branch) members and staff were proud to march with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras float ‘A better healthcare system for all’ on Saturday 25 February.

The Branch is proud to support diversity and inclusion, and to advocate for social change to remove stigma and discrimination and to promote equitable access to health care.

The first parade on Oxford Street – the parade’s spiritual home – since 2019, this year’s Mardi Gras was one of the biggest ever, according to organisers.

Supported by the Branch, a contingent of Victorian nurses and midwife members joined their union colleagues from NSW, Qld, the ACT and SA in dancing down the street for WorldPride. If you missed them in their sparkling scrubs and fabulous capes, our NSW counterparts posted some Facebook Live footage of them in action.

WorldPride is a global LGBTQIA+ festival that has been staged since 2000, with cities competing to host the event. Sydney is the first city in the southern hemisphere to host the 17-day celebration, which concludes in early March with a human rights conference.
