ANMF online maternity forums

Make a difference in the Victorian maternity landscape.

ANMF is organising a series of online forums for members working in maternity services across the state. This is your opportunity to inform the Victorian Maternity Taskforce as it prepares to make recommendations to the government.

We’ll discuss workforce challenges, potential reforms and opportunities that would provide midwives with work-life balance and professional satisfaction.

Midwives and nurses working in the public, private and not-for profit maternity services and all models of care should attend.

If you’re unable to attend the forum for your region, please join us on a date that best suits, or fill in our survey.

Your knowledge, perspectives, feedback and expertise will help inform our submission to the taskforce’s current stakeholder engagement process.

It is critical the voices of more than 6000 midwifery ANMF (Vic Branch) members are heard in this consultation, particularly those in rural and regional areas. But it is also important to hear from metropolitan midwives about the barriers to moving and working outside Melbourne.

The views of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander midwives and nurses working in maternity services will also be critical to these discussions and our submission.

Background

The Victorian Maternity Taskforce was established in October 2024 to address challenges in maternity care and identify opportunities to strengthen the safety, sustainability and accessibility of rural and regional maternity services in Victoria. The taskforce will deliver recommendations to the government in mid-2025 and is focused on four key pillars of maternity services:

  1. access to services and models of care
  2. maternity workforce
  3. quality and safety
  4. consumer experience

The Taskforce has serious maternity issues, including midwifery workforce issues, it must address.

ANMF looks forward to talking more with you at these forums so we can recommend actions that will encourage you to stay in the profession you love and build our workforce now and in the future.
