The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (Victorian Branch) has appointed Gordon Legal to provide employment and professional legal representation to its more than 80,000 members and the union.

Last year a number of law firms responded to ANMF’s request for proposals to provide member and union legal services on a retainer basis.

The ANMF (Vic Branch) Council selected Gordon Legal based on its recent appointment of lawyers experienced in representing ANMF members, its comprehensive experience across employment, work injury, family and personal law and its reputation for successfully pursuing social justice cases.

Gordon Legal has replaced Ryan Carlisle Thomas which did not submit a proposal.

ANMF (Vic Branch) Secretary Lisa Fitzpatrick said: ‘We provide representation for our members across a number of courts and tribunals which requires specialised knowledge of industrial and work injury laws.

‘Representing our members also requires a deep understanding of the laws and regulations that underpin the nursing and midwifery professions and health services and nursing homes.

‘Gordon Legal has recently appointed lawyers experienced in representing our members and we’re pleased we will be able to maintain continuity of service and retain that important understanding and knowledge.

‘Ryan Carlisle Thomas has provided integral legal services to ANMF members for 20 years and I would like to acknowledge their wonderful and loyal service to our members and the union,’ Ms Fitzpatrick said.

‘In particular I would like to thank Partner Orm Thomas who built a strong, enduring and productive relationship between ANMF and RCT starting with former Secretary Belinda Morieson in the 1990s,’ she said.

Ryan Carlisle Thomas will continue to manage existing personal injury matters. All new member matters from 12 January 2018 will be referred to Gordon Legal.
