The Advanced Practice Nurse and Midwife (APNM) classification project – which aims to develop suitable classification descriptors for nurses and midwives working in clinical liaison, clinical coordinator and clinical consultants’ positions – is nearing completion.
A final stage of evaluation of the APNM classification framework has been ongoing since October last year and includes the following eight health services:
- Austin Health
- Dhelkaya Health
- Eastern Health
- Grampians Health
- Monash Health
- Royal Children’s Hospital
- The Women’s
- Western Health
The mapping of advanced practice nurses and midwives who work at these health services is nearly complete, and the evaluation – designed to ensure the framework is fit for purpose – will result in a report on the outcomes in the coming weeks.
In recent weeks, advanced practice nurses and midwives working for these services should have received this update from their workplace in relation to the evaluation and progress on the mapping of the roles against the descriptors.
The evaluation report, prepared by the implementation steering committee, will provide advice for all parties, including the Department of Health, and will support planning for the next phase of the process. While there have been some gaps identified through the mapping the committee is working together to address these. This will help ensure that future role definitions and classifications appropriately align with the new descriptors.
Recognising that periods of change can raise questions, ANMF is committed to keeping members informed as work progresses. Advanced nurse and midwife member contributions to this process are critical, and we would like to thank every member for your engagement in the project.
