Congratulations to those final year nursing and midwifery students who’ve been advised of a successful graduate program match for 2027.

Unfortunately, ANMF (Vic Branch) is aware that there are a significant number of final year nurses and midwives who’ve been unsuccessful in being allocated a graduate placement for 2027.

Fill in our survey to help ANMF advocate for more graduate positions

Whether you were matched or unmatched, please fill in our grad program results survey. We want to hear from members and non-members.

Register for ANMF’s final year unmatched student support session

ANMF is holding sessions for affected students on Tuesday 29 September at 10am or 4pm. Non-members are welcome to register.

I missed out. Does this mean I wasn’t good enough?

Absolutely not. Your abilities, skills, and potential as a nurse or midwife aren’t defined by whether you were matched to a graduate program. Many successful nurses and midwives have started their careers outside of graduate programs.

The matching process is highly competitive and limited by the number of positions available. The 2026-2027 match is even more competitive than 2025 with a significant number of graduates not securing a position.

What is the ANMF doing now to support us?

ANMF has been and continues to advocate for additionally funded graduate nursing and midwifery program positions. We’ve been in positive discussions with the Victorian Government, seeking commitments to ensure that as many of our graduating nurses and midwives as possible are gainfully employed in 2027 and not lost from Victoria’s health and aged care services.

This advocacy is a continuation of the Use us or Lose us campaign that has seen ANMF fiercely advocating for all Victorian nursing and midwifery students since December 2025 following the outcome of the 2025-2026 PMCV GNMP match results.

We’ll provide updates on the outcomes of these discussions as soon as possible.

Steps you can take right now

  1. Register for the ANMF Final year unmatched student support sessions on Tuesday 29 September – choose either 10am or 4pm.
  2. Complete our grad program results survey to fuel our advocacy work.
  3. Check your emails for updates – ANMF understand there are some unmatched positions available in regional Victoria that will be released next week following the PMCV acceptance period closing. We’ll provide updates on the outcomes of these discussions as soon as possible.
  4. If you’re not yet an ANMF member – sign up as student member today – we are stronger together.
  5. Seek feedback – Contact the health services you were unsuccessful with and seek some feedback on your application.
  6. Sign up for job alerts – If you haven’t already, subscribe to job websites and health service career pages.

I feel really disheartened and overwhelmed. Who can I talk to?
